Industrial level 3D printers provide a lot of other material options, but these printers’ costs range from $75,000 up to over $1 million. Plastics are the only materials that can be melted, and then quickly hardened in a safe environment that doesn’t require a tremendous amount of heat. These huge machines print objects in a variety of materials, but come with price tags that are only affordable for a select few.įused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printers mainly are limited to plastic and plastic-like materials. When most people think about 3D printing, they imagine a machine that either extrudes molten plastic, in a way similar to how a hot glue gun works, or they picture one of the larger industrial level 3D printers manufactured by 3D systems or Stratasys.
